    • A. Introduction to Research Ethics


      This section introduces you to the purpose and value basis of research ethics - why it is important for every researcher and through the entire research process and every research career.

      This course is built around the concept of 'ethics by design'. This translates to motivation and action to proactively engage with ethical issues in research work and design research to minimise issues and challenges. The ethics by design approach is further built on transparency and openness as the key values.

      Subsection A1 will share experiences and theories why and how ethics is part of all research work.

      The second subsection A2 will introduce you to main ethical theories and their application in research and in your own ethical thinking.

      The third subsection A3 introduces how the research ethical and research integrity principles are applied in Finland

      Key Learning outcomes in this section are:

      • Recognise and analyse key research ethical questions
      • Recognise and understand key ethical principles guiding research
      • Recognise the main research ethical and research integrity guidelines applied in Finland
      • Understand the Finnish Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR) guidelines and processes for dealing with violations of RCR in Finland
