Kuinka käytät TOHTOS-kursseja? How to use TOHTOS courses? 

Johdannoksi TOHTOS-kurssien käyttäjille (in English below)

TOHTOS-kurssien kokonaisuus on luotu ESR-rahoitteisessa projektissa. Kurssit on viety Findocnetin Moodle-verkkokurssialustalle suomalaisten yliopistojen käyttäväksi tohtorikoulutuksessaan HAKA -tunnistautumisen kautta. Kursseja voi käyttää Findocnet-alueella.

Huom! Kurssi on kopioitava yliopistokohtaiseen kansioon opetusta varten. TOHTOS-kansiossa olevaan ladattavaan kurssiversioon ei saa tehdä muutoksia eikä sen kautta saa järjestää opetusta.  Näet viimeisimmät ladattavat versiot TOHTOS-kurssialueelta. Ladattavat versiot on nimetty: Kurssinnimi_ Download2019_1.0. Voit nimetä opetettavan kurssin uudelleen omalla alueellasi.

LATAUSOIKEUDET KURSSEILLE ANNETAAN SOVITUN MUKAISESTI YLIOPISTOITTAIN.

Huomaathan, että kursseja ei päivitetä säännöllisesti, minkä vuoksi opettajan on tarkistettava kurssin ja sen osien toimivuus huolellisesti ennen opetuksen alkua.

Hyvän tieteellisen käytännön mukaisesti, jos muokkaat, päivität tai täydennät opetettavan kurssin materiaalia, materiaalista on käytävä ilmi, miltä osin ja kenen toimesta muokkauksia, päivityksiä tai täydennyksiä on tehty.

Jos huomaat ladattavissa kursseissa oleellisia teknisiä puutteita (esimerkiksi videot eivät näy ollenkaan), ilmoita asiasta kurssin yhteyshenkilölle (mainittu alla). Kurssit sisältävät myös erillisiä ohjeita opettajille.

Introduction to TOHTOS course users

TOHTOS courses are developed in a ESF funded project. The courses have been dowloaded to Findocnet Moodle area to be used in doctoral education by Finnish Universities through HAKA registration. Courses can be used only in Findocnet area if not otherwise agreed.

Please note! You must download the course version in your university-specific folder before  organising teaching. You must not do any amendments or organise teaching through the downloadable version of the course in the TOHTOS folder. You will see the latest dowloadable versions in the TOHTOS folder named as coursename_Download2019_1.0. You can re-name the course in your own university's folder after copying the course.

DOWNLOADING RIGHTS WILL BE GIVEN ACCORDING AGREEMENT TO EVERY UNIVERSITY

Please note, TOHTOS courses are not regularly updated. Therefore, teacher has to carefully check the course content and functions before organising teaching.

According to good scientific practice, if you edit, update or add material in the taught courses, please make a notification about which changes and by whom are made to the original version.

If you notice essential techical problems in the downloadable courses (e.g. videos don't show at all), contact course contact person (mentioned below). Courses may also include additional instructions to the teachers.

The course is targeted at doctoral students who need to enhance their business skills and knowledge of academic entrepreneurship.

With this course we want to assist you in your own career planning, which is important to think about early on in your PhD.

Interactive Leadership Skills course is targeted to all doctoral students regardless of their research topic or background.

The course

  1. briefly presents the concepts of leadership and interaction,
  2. combines these concepts to provide a framework for good leadership and interactive leadership skills, and
  3. challenges students to get to know themselves to start to recognize and develop their own leadership skills.

This course consists of videos, lecture slides, related obligatory or optional “nice to know” materials, discussions among students on Moodle discussion board (= group tasks) and individual assignments.

The course is part of the TOHTOS Project funded by European Social Fund (ESF).

After the course you will
  1. be familiar with the basics of project management and LFA approach, and are able to apply the common project management tools such as Gantt’s chart and WBS
  2. understand the significance and elements of good leadership
  3. understand group work dynamics, and know how to promote successful group work
  4. recognize the special features of multicultural working environment
  5. know the basics of project communication and will be able to create a communication and interaction plan
  6. be able to apply project management skills to a research project

Writing Research Grant Proposals course is targeted to all doctoral students regardless of their research topic or discipline.

The research funding proposal is all in all a process including several elements. The identification of them help you to plan your proposal writing and clarify the timetable with the writing task.

This course will give you an overview on the grant writing. The material will clarify the skills needed for the grant writing, give tips on how to improve the abstract of the proposal and the impact and implementation parts of your proposal. In addition to this, the material helps you to find the relevant funding bodies for your research topic. You are also encouraged to do networking in your research field and build contacts.

The course is part of the TOHTOS Project funded by European Social Fund (ESF).

The purpose of this guide is to instruct doctoral students in their career planning, which is supported by thesis supervisors, the doctoral school and the career services at universities.


Työuran suunnittelu on yksi osa kunkin omaa tulevaisuuden mietintää. Tulevaisuuden suunnittelu on prosessi, jota työstämme uuden tiedon sekä sisäisten ja ulkoiset kokemusten perusteella. Mitä aikaisemmassa vaiheessa tämän prosessin saa tietoiseksi toiminnaksi, sen parempi, mutta koskaan ei ole liian myöhäistä.
