Have all partners agree at least on the ownership and rights of use, processing, storage and possible opening of the research data before collecting said data. Further specify the agreements if necessary during the course of the research. Comply with current data protection legislation and obligations related to non-disclosure, confidentiality and secrecy. Promote the openness and further use of data as far as possible.
Activities that violate RCR
Disregard related to implementation:
Inappropriate use of data or failure to comply with contracts concerning data
Inadequate documentation and storage of results and data
Causing inappropriate delays or difficulties in the work of other researchers
Data collection is not necessarily linked with ownership of that data. In research ownership typically refers to rights to manage how data is published and by who. This section explores potential ethical challenges around data ownership. Again these are aspects best discussed and agreed earlier rather than later - doing ethics by design rather than by necessity.
